Economic and Social Development of India

This section includes sustainable development, poverty alleviation, demography and social sector initiatives. Candidates should also prepare development schemes, population issues, employment, urbanisation and poverty-related challenges.

The syllabus specifically mentions the relationship and problems between population, environment and urbanisation. This makes topics such as migration, urban pressure, sanitation, housing and inclusive development important.

This section carries 10 questions. Candidates should prepare constitutional development in India, the Indian Constitution, political system, governance, public policy and official issues.

Important areas include Panchayati Raj, local self-government, community development, fundamental rights, directive principles, Parliament, state legislature and administrative structure.

General Science questions will be based on everyday observation and general scientific understanding. Candidates should revise basic Physics, Chemistry, Biology and applied science topics.

The technology portion includes India’s science and technology policy, use of science in daily life, national development, national security, Indian achievements in science and technology, indigenisation of technology, new technologies and dual-use technologies.

Current Events of National and International Importance

Candidates should prepare recent national and international events. Questions may be asked from government schemes, appointments, awards, sports, defence, economy, science, technology, environment and global developments.

Uttar Pradesh-related current affairs should also be revised because the paper has a separate UP-specific section with high weightage.

Data Interpretation

Data Interpretation will test the candidate’s ability to read, analyse and interpret data. Questions may be based on graphs, tables, diagrams, statistical analysis and data-based conclusions.

Candidates should practise percentages, ratios, averages, bar graphs, pie charts, line graphs, tabular data and simple arithmetic-based interpretation.

Excise-Related Legal Provisions and Policies in Uttar Pradesh

This is a post-specific section carrying 10 marks. Candidates should prepare the United Provinces Excise Act, 1910, as amended.

The syllabus also includes general information about molasses, alcohol and other intoxicants, important government orders related to excise, and Uttar Pradesh Excise Policy 2025-26.

UPSSSC Excise Constable Preparation Strategy

Candidates should begin with the highest-weightage sections. Uttar Pradesh GK, Computer and IT, Data Interpretation, Indian Polity, Economic and Social Development, and Excise-related provisions together form a major part of the paper.

Because the exam has negative marking, accuracy will be important. Candidates should avoid blind guessing and practise mock tests in the same 100-question, two-hour format.

For better preparation, candidates should revise Uttar Pradesh-specific topics daily, practise computer awareness questions, read current affairs regularly and study the excise-related legal topics from authentic material.
