Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation has issued the GSRTC Driver recruitment notification for 4,599 posts. Candidates applying for the driver post will have to clear an OMR-based written test followed by a driving test.
As per the notification, the written examination will be conducted for 100 marks, while the driving test will carry 50 marks. However, the final merit will not be prepared simply by adding both raw scores. GSRTC will apply 40% weightage to the OMR written exam and 60% weightage to the driving test while preparing the final merit list.

GSRTC Driver Selection Process 2026
The GSRTC Driver selection process will be conducted in two major stages:
- OMR-based written examination
- Driving test
All candidates who submit valid applications will be called for the 100-mark OMR written test. After the written exam, candidates will be shortlisted for the driving test in a 1:2 ratio against the notified vacancies, based on merit and reservation rules.
The final merit list will be prepared only from candidates who qualify in the driving test.

Important Exam Rules
The written exam will have 100 questions for 100 marks. The duration of the exam will be 1 hour. Each question will carry 1 mark.
There is no minimum qualifying mark prescribed for the OMR written exam. However, candidates scoring zero or less than zero marks will not be eligible for the driving test.
Negative marking will apply. For every wrong answer, blank answer, erased answer, or more than one marked option, 0.25 marks will be deducted. However, if a candidate marks option “E” to indicate that they do not want to answer the question, negative marking will not be applied.
GSRTC Driver Syllabus 2026: Subject-Wise Details
General Knowledge
This section will carry 30 marks and will be based on Class 12-level general awareness. Candidates should focus on Gujarat-related general knowledge, basic Indian polity, history, geography, current affairs, government schemes, transport-related public awareness and basic civic knowledge.
For driver recruitment, this section is important because it checks whether the candidate has basic awareness of society, administration and public service responsibilities.
Road Safety and Auto Mechanic
This is one of the most job-relevant sections in the GSRTC Driver exam. It will carry 20 marks and will be asked in Gujarati medium.
Candidates should prepare topics such as traffic rules, road signs, safe driving practices, vehicle maintenance, engine basics, brake system, clutch, gear, tyre pressure, fuel system, vehicle lights, emergency handling, accident prevention and passenger safety.
This section can decide the practical quality of the candidate because GSRTC is recruiting drivers for public transport services, where safety and vehicle handling are core responsibilities.
Gujarati Language and Grammar
The Gujarati language and grammar section will carry 20 marks. The level will be up to Class 12.
Candidates should prepare Gujarati grammar, synonyms, antonyms, sentence correction, idioms, spelling, punctuation, comprehension and basic language usage. Since most of the paper will be in Gujarati, strong command over Gujarati will also help in understanding other sections accurately.
English Language and Grammar
The English section will carry 10 marks. The level will be up to Class 12 and the questions will be asked in English medium.
Candidates should focus on basic grammar, sentence correction, articles, prepositions, tenses, vocabulary, spelling, simple comprehension and common usage. This section has fewer marks, but it should not be ignored because even 5–8 marks can affect merit in large recruitment drives.
Arithmetic
The arithmetic section will carry 20 marks and will be based on Class 10 level.
Candidates should prepare number system, simplification, percentage, average, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, simple interest, time and work, time and distance, speed-based questions, basic geometry and practical calculations. For driver posts, arithmetic questions are usually expected to test basic numerical ability rather than advanced mathematics.
GSRTC Driver Driving Test 2026
The driving test will be conducted for 50 marks. Candidates must score at least 35 marks in the driving test to qualify.
The driving test has the highest importance in final selection because it carries 60% weightage in final merit. This means candidates cannot depend only on the written exam. Even a good written score may not be enough if the driving test performance is weak.

GSRTC will prepare the final merit list by applying the following weightage:

Preparation Strategy for GSRTC Driver Exam 2026
Candidates should first prepare the 30-mark general knowledge section because it has the highest weightage in the written exam. Road safety and auto mechanics should be treated as the most job-specific sections.
Gujarati grammar and arithmetic can be high-scoring if revised daily. English has only 10 marks, but candidates should still prepare basic grammar and vocabulary to avoid losing easy marks.
For the driving test, candidates should practise vehicle control, reversing, turning, braking, lane discipline, mirror use, road judgement and safe passenger-vehicle handling.
