The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission has defined the exam pattern and syllabus for the UPSSSC Lower PCS Main Examination under the Combined Lower Subordinate Services Competitive Examination. As per the recruitment PDF, the UPSSSC Lower PCS Main Exam will be conducted as an objective-type written test. UPSSSC Lower PCS Main Exam Pattern 2026
The UPSSSC Lower PCS Main Examination will have only one question paper. The paper will be objective and multiple-choice in nature. Each question will carry one mark.
The total duration of the paper will be 120 minutes. Candidates should note that there will also be negative marking. For every wrong answer, 25 percent of the marks prescribed for that question will be deducted. Since each question carries one mark, the penalty for each wrong answer will be 0.25 mark.

What the Exam Pattern Means for Candidates

The syllabus includes the history of Uttar Pradesh, culture, art, architecture, festivals, folk dances, literature, regional languages, heritage, social customs and tourism. Candidates should prepare major historical sites, cultural traditions and important personalities linked to the state.
The section also covers geographical landscape, environment, natural resources, climate, soil, forests, wildlife, mines, minerals, economy, agriculture, industry, business, employment, polity, administration, current events and achievements of Uttar Pradesh in different fields.
How Candidates Should Prepare for the Main Exam
Candidates should first divide the syllabus according to marks. Uttar Pradesh GK, computer and IT, polity, economy, environment and disaster management together form a large part of the paper. These subjects should receive more structured preparation.
