UPSSSC AGTA Syllabus, Exam Pattern: 100-Question Written Test, Agriculture Topics Carry Major Weight

The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission has outlined the syllabus and written examination pattern for Agriculture Technical Assistant Group-C, commonly referred to as UPSSSC AGTA. The recruitment is for 2759 posts, and the selection process will be based on a written examination carrying 100 marks.

As per the uploaded notification, the written exam will include questions from agriculture subjects, computer and information technology, and general information related to Uttar Pradesh. The paper will be objective-type, and candidates will get 2 hours to complete the exam.

The key point for candidates is clear: agriculture subjects dominate the paper. Out of 100 marks, 65 marks are assigned to agriculture-related sections, while computer knowledge carries 15 marks and Uttar Pradesh general knowledge carries 20 marks.

UPSSSC AGTA Exam Pattern 2026

The UPSSSC AGTA written examination will include 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks. Each question will carry 1 mark. The total duration of the paper will be 120 minutes.

There will also be negative marking. For each wrong answer, one-fourth of the prescribed marks for that question will be deducted. This means candidates should avoid blind guessing and focus on accuracy.

Agriculture Section Will Decide the Merit

The agriculture section is the most important part of the UPSSSC AGTA exam because it carries the highest weightage. Candidates should give priority to Crop Science, Soil and Water Conservation, Plant Breeding, Crop Physiology, Agriculture Extension, Agriculture Economics, Statistics, Dairy and Animal Husbandry.

Crop Science alone carries 25 marks, making it the single largest subject in the paper. The syllabus includes basic principles of crop production, classification of crops, crop protection, major crop diseases, pests, integrated pest management, and storage-related concepts.

Soil and Water Conservation carries 15 marks. This section includes soil properties, soil formation, soil erosion, soil conservation, plant nutrients, fertilisers, organic fertilisers, bio-fertilisers, soil microbiology, soil survey, irrigation, drainage, watershed management, pollution and environmental protection.

UPSSSC AGTA Syllabus: Subject-Wise Details

In Crop Science, candidates should cover principles of crop production, classification of major crops, crop varieties, cropping systems, crop protection, crop diseases and pest management. The syllabus also includes integrated pest management and storage of agricultural produce.

The Biotechnology, Plant Breeding and Crop Physiology section includes the importance of biotechnology in agriculture, genetics and plant breeding, photosynthesis, respiration, evaporation, plant anatomy and metabolism. This section is small in marks but technical in nature.

Agriculture Extension includes rural development, extension education methods, audio-visual aids, classification and importance of extension methods, training objectives and government schemes for farmers. Candidates should also revise agriculture-related government programmes of the Central and State governments.

Computer and IT Section

The computer and information technology section carries 15 marks. Candidates should prepare basic computer concepts, history and application of computers, hardware and software, input-output devices, internet, World Wide Web, email, word processing and spreadsheet operations.

The syllabus also mentions digital financial tools and e-governance. Candidates should revise digital payment systems, cybersecurity basics, online services and the role of information technology in public service delivery.

A separate focus should be given to contemporary technological development and innovation. This includes artificial intelligence, big data processing, deep learning, machine learning, the Internet of Things, and India’s achievements in the field of information technology.

Uttar Pradesh GK Section

The General Information related to Uttar Pradesh section carries 20 marks. This section may include questions from history, culture, art, architecture, festivals, folk traditions, literature, regional languages, social customs and tourism.

Candidates should also prepare the geography of Uttar Pradesh, landscape, natural resources, climate, soil, forests, wildlife, mines, minerals, economy, agriculture, industry, employment and administrative structure.

Current events and achievements of Uttar Pradesh may also be asked. Candidates should revise recent state government schemes, major infrastructure projects, agriculture initiatives, economic indicators and important state-level appointments.

Preparation Strategy for UPSSSC AGTA Exam

Candidates should begin with the agriculture section because it carries 65% of the total marks. Crop Science and Soil and Water Conservation should be treated as high-priority subjects due to their combined 40-mark weightage.

The computer section should not be ignored. It is relatively scoring because most topics are factual and basic. A candidate with regular practice can secure good marks in this section with limited preparation time.

For Uttar Pradesh GK, candidates should prepare a short state-specific notebook. It should include districts, rivers, crops, industries, cultural facts, recent schemes, major awards, tourism sites and current developments related to the state.
