The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission has opened applications for the TNPSC Combined Civil Services Examination-IV, commonly known as TNPSC Group IV Recruitment 2026. The recruitment covers 6,574 tentative vacancies across 46 post entries, including Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, Bill Collector, Revenue Assistant, Typist, Steno Typist, Executive Officer Grade IV, Forest Watcher and Forest Guard with Driving Licence.
Online applications opened on October 6, 2026. Eligible candidates can submit their applications through the TNPSC examination portal until November 5, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
For many posts, an SSLC-level qualification is sufficient, while some positions require a degree, B.Com, Higher Secondary qualification, typewriting or shorthand certificates, computer qualifications, or other post-specific credentials. Candidates therefore need to check eligibility against the exact post code they intend to be considered for.

In practical terms, several Group IV positions are therefore open to candidates with an SSLC-level qualification, but a number of posts have additional or higher requirements.
Candidates must possess the prescribed education, technical qualification and experience on October 6, 2026, unless the notification specifically provides otherwise.

Knowledge of Tamil Is Required
Candidates should possess adequate knowledge of Tamil on the notification date.
This can generally be established through Tamil as a language at SSLC, HSC or degree level, study through Tamil medium, or passing the TNPSC Second Class Language Test in Tamil as prescribed in the notification.
Where a candidate does not produce the required proof, the notification provides for passing the prescribed Tamil language test within the stipulated period after appointment in applicable cases.
TNPSC Group 4 Age Limit 2026
Age will be calculated as on July 1, 2026.
Because the recruitment includes 46 post entries and several category-based concessions, applicants should not rely on a single universal age limit.
Post-wise Age Limits
| Post/Category | Minimum Age | Standard Maximum for “Others” |
|---|---|---|
| Village Administrative Officer | 21 | 30 |
| Most Junior Assistant, Bill Collector, Typist and similar posts | 18 | 30 |
| Executive Officer Grade IV | 25 | 35 |
| Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies | 18 | 30 |
| Forest Watcher | 21 | 30 |
| Forest Guard with Driving Licence | 21 | 30 |
For several reserved-category candidates, higher upper-age limits or “no maximum age limit” provisions apply depending on the post and educational qualification.
For VAO, for example, the standard maximum is 30 for candidates falling under the notification’s “Others” category, while the maximum shown for SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM) and BCM candidates is 40.
For Forest Watcher and Forest Guard with Driving Licence, the notification specifies an upper age of 33 for BC(OBCM), BCM and MBC/DC candidates and 35 for SC, SC(A) and ST candidates.
TNPSC Group 4 Application Fee
There are two different fee concepts candidates should distinguish between: One Time Registration and the examination fee.
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| One Time Registration fee | ₹150 |
| Examination fee | ₹100 |
| Applicable online service charges | Extra, as applicable |
One-time registration is valid for five years from the date of successful registration.
Candidates who already have a valid TNPSC OTR do not need to create another merely for this recruitment.
The ₹100 examination fee has to be paid while submitting the application unless the candidate validly claims an exemption.
Fee Exemptions
The notification provides:
- full examination-fee exemption for SC, SC(A) and ST candidates;
- full exemption for eligible persons with benchmark disabilities;
- full exemption for eligible destitute widows;
- three free chances for eligible BC, BCM and MBC/DC candidates;
- two free chances for eligible ex-servicemen.
A fee-concession claim counts against the applicable number of free chances. Candidates should therefore verify their previous usage before making the claim.
Once the fee-concession option has been successfully submitted, the choice cannot be altered.
Payment can be made online through Net Banking, credit card, debit card or UPI. Demand Draft, Postal Order and other offline payment methods are not accepted.
TNPSC Group IV Selection Process
TNPSC Group IV 2026 is being conducted as a single-stage written examination.
The broad selection sequence is:
- OMR-based written examination.
- Preparation of ranking based on written examination marks.
- On-screen certificate verification for shortlisted candidates.
- Physical Standards Test and Endurance Test for applicable Forest posts.
- Physical certificate verification.
- Counselling and post allotment, wherever applicable.
The notification does not prescribe an interview.
How to Apply for TNPSC Group 4 Recruitment 2026
Candidates can complete the application in the following practical steps:
- Visit the TNPSC examination portal at tnpscexams.in and open the Combined Civil Services Examination-IV application.
- Complete One Time Registration if you do not already have a valid OTR. New registration carries a ₹150 fee and remains valid for five years.
- Link Aadhaar with the OTR profile, as Aadhaar linking is mandatory for creating, renewing or accessing OTR and applying for TNPSC recruitment.
- Log in using the OTR credentials, check the automatically populated details and complete the recruitment-specific information.
- Select the appropriate post option carefully, including whether you want to be considered for Forest Watcher/Forest Guard with Driving Licence.
- Upload the required photograph, signature and other applicable details or documents and review the application preview carefully.
- Pay the ₹100 examination fee online if you are not entitled to or are not claiming an exemption.
- Make the final submission before November 5, 2026, at 11:59 PM and retain the application number for future reference.
A preview of an application does not mean the candidate has successfully applied. TNPSC considers an application submitted only after the candidate completes final submission using the prescribed Submit option.
TNPSC OTR Requirements Candidates Should Know
A new OTR requires a ₹150 registration fee and remains valid for five years.
For registration, TNPSC asks candidates to keep a recent scanned photograph and signature ready. The notification specifies a photograph taken within the previous three months, sized between 20 KB and 50 KB, and a signature between 10 KB and 20 KB, both at 200 DPI.
Candidates must maintain an active personal mobile number and email ID.
One-time registration by itself is not an application for TNPSC Group IV. A separate application must be submitted for the examination.
Candidates should also correct any incorrect OTR information before submitting the recruitment application because details from OTR are automatically carried into the form.
TNPSC Group 4 Application Correction Window
Candidates who identify mistakes after the application deadline will have a three-day correction window.
It will remain available from November 9, 2026, at 12:01 AM until November 11, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
After the correction window closes, TNPSC will not permit further modification of the online application.
Candidates should not treat the correction window as a substitute for checking the form before initial submission. Certain choices, including the successfully submitted fee-concession option, are subject to specific restrictions.
